The Boys Spring 2010 Season

Information is provided below on the McLean Youth Inc. Lacrosse program, team placement, & registration.

Please contact David (Bucky) Morris ( ) with any questions.

The MYL Lacrosse Program

McLean Youth Lacrosse serves all boys & girls living within the McLean High & Langley High School Districts ages 5-14, mainly zipcodes in 22101, 22102, 22043, 22046, & 22066.

Please go to this website:
http://boundary.fcps.edu/boundary/ to find out which public High School District you live in. You must enter your public high school where you reside when you register online for the Spring 2010 Season. You don't necessarily have to plan to go to McLean HS or Langley HS, but if you live within these two public high school boundaries then you can play with McLean Youth Lacrosse.

All other players living outside these two public high school districts are highly encouraged to play youth lacrosse in your local public high school district youth program where you live. You may incur higher registration fees if you play with McLean Youth Lacrosse in order to help off-set higher Fairfax County User Fees for non-county residents that use county fields in McLean.

In the 2010 Spring Season,  we will participate in the
Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL) in boys divisions and girls divisions.  The divisions for both girls and boys are U9, U11, U13 and U15. No high school players, or anyone playing high school lacrosse, can play in the NVYLL league. We will also offer a U7 boys and a U7 girls (5&6 yr olds) division that will practice on 6-7 Saturdays in the spring and we will try to schedule several scrimmages for this new age-group, more details soon.

U7 Boys & Girls (5&6 yr olds) will start practices on Saturday April 10th, 3pm-430pm, at Langley Forks.

Age-Based Programs — The age-based programs in the NVYLL are designed for boys and girls from age 7 to age 14.  Practices are held one to three times a week with boys games on Saturdays and girls games on Sundays. These games are played throughout the Northern Virginia areas and requires travel.

For both boys and girls there will be four divisions -- Under 15 (U15), Under 13 (U13), Under 11 (U11) and Under 9 (U9).  Players who are under the maximum age as of
December 31, 2009 are eligible to play in that division.  For example:  A player who is 12 years old as of December 31, 2009 is eligible for the U13 division. If a player turns 13 after December 31st, 2009, they can still play U13 for the Spring 2010 season.

Age-groups for Spring 2010 are determined by the players age as of January 1, 2010 or by their birth year.

Players can play up in the next age-group with the permission of his or her age-group coordinator but cannot play down. Example, player born in 1996 cannot play U13 and must play U15 since they are 13 already, but a player born in 1997 could play either U13 or U15, but is highly encouraged to play U13 and still must have permission to do so.

U7 Boys & Girls COED (Birth years 2003, 2004, & 2005)
U9 Boys & Girls (Birth years 2001 & 2002)
U11 Boys & Girls (Birth years 1999 & 2000)
U13 Boys & Girls  (Birth years 1997 & 1998)
U15 Boys & Girls  (Birth years 1995 & 1996)

Both boys and girl divisions are divided into conferences based upon the skill level of the players. The conferences are A for advanced players, B for intermediate players and C for beginning players.  Boys teams will be divided into A, B and C conferences at the U15, U13 and U11 levels and into A and B conferences at the U9 levels.  Girls teams will be divided into A and B conferences at the U-15, U-13 and U-11 level and a B conference only at the U-9 level.

Practices and Games

Team placement evaluations will take place starting the weekend of February 13th/14 thru February 27th/28th. All players in all age-groups, except U7, are required to attend the team placement evaluations so we can determine players ability and placement on the appropriate level team.

Practice for all U9, U11, U13 and U15 players will begin the week of March 1st. Practice schedules will be dependent of coaches’ schedules and field availability, and change after daylight savings time and will be posted on this website as soon as we can schedule it.

Girls will play 9 games in 2009.  Games will be played on Sunday afternoons and will occur on March 28, April 18, April 25, May 2, May 9 (Mother’s Day), May 16, and May 30.  The ninth game will be an additional game occurring on either Saturday or Sunday during the season.  No games on Easter or Memorial Day weekends. Playoffs will be June 1 to June 6.

Boys will play 9 games in 2009.  Boy’s games generally are on Saturday and will occur on March 27, April 10, April 17, April 24, May 1, May 8, May 15, and May 29.  The tenth game will be an additional game occurring on either Saturday or Sunday during the season.  No games on Easter or Memorial Day weekends.  The playoffs will be from June 7-13th.

Playoffs are held for the U11 through U15 age groups.  The U9 age groups (boys & girls) will participate in a fun U9 Festival on June 5th in which all the teams will get together and play games at the same location on the same day.  Last year the U9 Festival was held at EC Lawrence Park.

Placement on Teams

The goal in placement is to foster growth of every player by providing an environment with teammates and opponents of nearly equal skills.  Team placement will be based upon (in no particular order):
  • Age group;
  • Athletic skills
  • Lacrosse knowledge
  • Stick work
  • Level of commitment
  • Attitude
