2020 McLean Box League, Boys Youth-HS Rules

 

BOX RULES Boys Youth-HS Division (5 field players + goalie modified)

Three 15-minute periods running time, 2 min in between periods. 1 timeout per team (1 min stopped clock) in first or second period only. No timeouts in third period. Goals are 5’x5’ so regular goalie gear needed.

Cross-checking legal, no full extension on cross-check. Moving picks (sliding into) allowed. Both within 5yds of ball.

No pushing or cross checking or moving picks from behind or pushing/body checking  into boards, players must play ball only within 3 yards of boards. No warding off allowed.

No body checking, but legal pushing is allowed. One-hand checks allowed but must get stick. Back Court Rule in effect (once ball crosses midline to offensive half, it cannot return to defensive half unless shot off goal or goalie or deflected by defense). A shot on goal that goes out of bounds is a turnover. 

5 field players allowed on field plus a goalie, one player must stay behind midfield line at all times, except if goalie goes over midline, then two players have to stay back. A goalie must be on field at all times, no goalie team not allowed a 6th player. Outlet passes back to the goalie in crease are allowed.

Coaches not allowed on field.  All teams must supply a goalie, gear will be provided.

Ball in play off the back of the black netting behind goals and off boards.

No long poles.  No stick inspection required unless needed. Sticks must be less than 42” long.

No Parents on/behind team bench side, or behind goals, or at scorer’s table/tent.

Faceoff TOSS to start each period with two players at midfield 6ft apart, everyone else behind blue line by goal. 6 goal differential in effect, free pass/clear by goalie to teammate. Subs on fly. Clear after every goal, 10 seconds to clear. No shot clock but If stalling, 30 sec shot clock given by Officials.

Penalties, teams play man-down for time on penalty. 2 minutes for slashing (excessive is non-releasable or if same player flagged twice or more), 2 minutes for boarding which is non- releasable. Excessive and violent play & repeat fouls; 5 minute Major, or fighting, player will be ejected.

Tied score at end, Brave Heart to determine winner, goalies must stay on their half.

Scores will be kept to determine games schedules at end of the season, no playoffs but balanced competition.

2020 Summer Box Covid-19 Guidelines

All Players must wear masks when entering and exiting fields of play and maintain social distance at all times before and after the games.  All players/parents must sign the Covid Waiver before their first game and turn in to the Field Commissioner.

All players will be required to have their temperature checked (forehead thermometer) before each game, so please arrive early to every game.  Any player or coach or parent that is feeling sick or been exposed to Covid virus in the past 14 days is not allowed to play and must stay home.

During games, players do not have to wear masks but can if they want too and must maintain 6 ft distance when on the sidelines during games and avoiding contact as much as possible during games. We have reduced the number of players on the field during games to maintain spacing with limited contact as much as practical. Players can wear clear plastic shields over the helmet facemask or goggles if they want but must be attached very securely.

All coaches need to wear masks at all times and maintain social distance from players and parents. All coaches will be required to have their temperature checked (forehead thermometer) before each game.

All Referees need to wear masks before and after games and maintain social distance from players and coaches as best they can during the games. Refs do not need to wear masks during games in order to blow whistles, but can if they want to. All Refs will be required to have their temperature checked (forehead thermometer) before their first game.

Only one parent is allowed to attend and watch the Box games (no siblings or dogs) and must social distance from the other parents and be 6 ft from the Box Boards at all times. No parents allowed near player bench sideline at any time! All parents must be wearing masks at all times!

Hand sanitizer will be available at each scorer’s table. Players must bring and use only their own water bottles.

After games, only team cheers allowed, no player hand shakes or elbows or sticks. No high-fives or chest bumps after goals.

After games and a team cheer, coaches and players and parents must exit the facility right away.
